Book Excerpt ~ Part One:

It was nine A.M.

Samantha logged in to her computer at her work. She had a great job as a CEO of Exotic Tours, a large Travel Agency, specializing in tropical and adventurous tours.

She immediately opened her email box and looked at her mail. "Ah, a message from Wicca," she muttered to herself. "Great."

Wicca Raven was her French email friend. They had met in a chat box some weeks ago, where they had talked about sex.

Wicca was a love therapist in Paris, and Samantha had told her new friend about her marriage problems. Wicca had given her various advice but nothing had worked--yet.

"Well?" Wicca’s mail asked. "Did sleeping naked do the job?"

Samantha hit reply. "Hi Wicca. No, it didn’t work. He was so tired, I guess he didn’t even notice my outfit. I’m getting kind of desperate. I was so happy for him when he took over that Art Gallery. Six months, four days...."

Samantha stopped typing, studied her watch and continued, "Eight hours and seven minutes ago. How could I ever imagine that he planned to be there day and night? Not to mention all those business trips. I can’t arouse my own husband anymore. And if I manage to, ‘Wham-bam-thank-you-Ma’am’ is all I get. We had such a good time together. I want my charming lover back. Shall I wrap myself in a Van Gogh or a Rembrandt? What do you think?"

Samantha leaned back in her leather chair, and sipping from her hot coffee, she reviewed her mail.

Shrugging, she pressed the send button and took another sip of her coffee.

The phone rang. Samantha answered it. "Exotic Tours, good morning. Can I help you?"

"Sam? Is that you?" Michael’s voice toned in her ear. "Mr. Vandenberg signed the contract. I’m so excited."

Oh wonderful. The only thing that aroused her husband nowadays was a signed contract.

She suppressed a sigh and tried to sound happy when she answered, "That’s great news, Michael! Way to go. How about cele--" How about celebrating with an intimate candle-lit dinner, she wanted to propose, but Michael interrupted her.

"Mr. Vandenberg has invited us to dinner tonight. In the New York Hilton at eight. Can you make that?"

Wow, a dinner with some unknown middle-aged, bald, Dutch Art merchandiser. That sounded thrilling.

She swallowed her disappointment. "Okay, I’ll be there."

"Can you put on your black, knee-length dress with the silver stockings?" he asked.

"Will do," she replied. Filling her voice with sensual temptation she added, "I won’t be wearing my panties."

But Michael didn’t hear her. "Love you," he said and hung up the phone.

Samantha put the receiver back into its cradle.

Right. She had to face it. Tonight would be another lost night. Lost for lovemaking, that was.

What was the use of trying to change Michael? She had better talk to her lawyer about a divorce.

No. Of course not. She loved Michael. She didn’t give up that easily. She was ready to fight for her happiness.

If only ... if only she knew what to do.

Book Excerpt ~ Part Two:

Samantha lay on her back in bed, nude, staring at the ceiling. She didn’t see anything, though. It was too dark for that. Listening to Michael’s calm breathing next to her, she chewed on her lower lip.

The evening had been everything she had expected.

Which was nothing at all.

Okay, they’d enjoyed a delicious mushroom soup, a perfect Tournedos flambé, small new potatoes au gratin, accompanied by a crisp green salad, and fresh summer vegetables like chicory, artichoke, even asparagus with crumbled hard-boiled eggs. They drank pink champagne, and she had a Dame Blanche for dessert—soft vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce.

Why on earth had she eaten chocolate? She knew very well what chocolate did to her.

When they’d waited for the coffee she’d felt so weird. Mr. Vandenberg was a charming man, for a bald sixty-year-old. He had the same piercing brown eyes as her grandfather. And after eating the chocolate she suddenly had the feeling that he could look straight into her mind, that he knew about her undies—about her lack of undies, that was.

Embarrassment had colored her cheeks into a deep red, and she’d felt so cheap. She, Samantha Gordon, born Samantha Rogers, the hardworking owner of Exotic Tours, was a despicable sex addict. What would Mr. Vandenberg think of her?

Darn.

She shifted her weight on the mattress. Was she cheap and addicted? Or was it all Michael’s fault? He was her Prince-on-the-white-horse who’d kissed her sexuality awake.

He had taught her to ache for his love, his touches. She craved him now, more than ever, and he slept, neglecting her needs.

Interview:

Wickedly Yours is pleased to bring you this interview with Anita Verkerk, award-winning Romance Author of the 2003 Haunted Hearts Contest Winner, The Enchanted Castle, and the sizzling fairy-tale romance A Mysterious Knight.

What prompted you into writing?

It started fifteen years ago when I found myself sitting at home with two
little children, filling my days changing diapers and washing dishes. It was
so different from my life as a history teacher, and I was becoming completely nuts.

Then, I came upon an advertisement in the TV guide. It said: 'Always wanted
to be an author? Try our no-risk writing course.'

I subscribed to the course and was hooked from the very beginning. It was
like coming home after years of searching. This was what I really wanted in
life.

Ms. Verkerk, you’re a successful multi-pubbed Romance author in the Netherlands. Why did you decide to write for the American market also?

That’s simple. I couldn’t write what I really wanted in Holland.

I’d like to write romances for grown-up women of all ages. I want my readers pick up my books after a long day of working, I want them to curl up on the couch, snuggle down in a warm bathtub, or nestle themselves in a cozy bed. I want them to laugh, enjoy, and relax!

One day, four years ago, I watched a television program entitled, "The Prince on the White Horse". It was all about Romance, and the American Romance market in particular.

I was sitting on the edge of my chair, watching Wonderland.

Somewhere, far away, at the other side of the ocean, there was a large country where authors could pen down what I wanted to write! And the only difference between those lucky girls and me was the language we used.

I had learned Dutch, right? I could learn English!

From that moment on I used all my spare time to improve my English, watching television, reading magazines, analyzing novels, in short everything an aspiring author must do to get to know the market.

I’m so happy it worked out.

Can you tell us a bit more about The Enchanted Castle?

The Enchanted Castle is a wonderful paranormal love story with many Gothic elements. It’s the first erotic romance I wrote in English.

I was doing the happy dance when my firstborn won the 2003 Haunted Hearts Contest!

The Enchanted Castle is not meant for the faint of heart. It's very, very hot.

The book features heroine Samantha. She is a strong, independent (business) woman, owner of a blooming travel Agency in New York.

She's married to gorgeous Michael, and they have the greatest sex life ever.

When Michael finds a new job as an art merchandiser, he turns into a workaholic, and the sizzling nights of passion are over. Samantha has her fill of competing against oil paintings by Van Gogh and with the help of her fairy godmother she decides to fight for her happiness.

Will a torrid night in The Enchanted Castle save her marriage?

What promotes your story ideas?

Ideas for stories always spontaneously bubble up inside my head, and they
are mostly the result of a blend of things.

As for The Enchanted Castle: I met an unhappy couple. The man worked day and
night, and the woman obviously suffered from the lack of attention. And when
she said, "I wish someone could help me get my husband back", the idea of a
fairy godmother bubbled up in my head.

The hidden fairy-tale message in The Enchanted Castle is: stop whining
about your unhappy marriage, fight for it!

Your American novels are published by New Concepts Publishing as e-books. What made you choose for e-book publishing?

E-book publishing is international. Readers from all over the world can buy and read my books.

Plus, I write Erotic Romance. I think readers like it when they can buy their Erotic Romance novels in the privacy of their homes, without getting strange looks from neighbors, or acquaintances who turn up behind your back when you don’t need them. :-)

Do you find it difficult to write sex scenes?

No, on the contrary: I love writing sex scenes! However, ‘love’ is the keyword here. I write about the deep and tender love between two lovers.

Love is the most wonderful thing in the world, and I could never write a story without this deep and genuine love.

What’s coming next?

There are two sizzling releases coming soon from New Concepts Publishing! http://www.newconceptspublishing.com

** ICE MAIDEN is a thrilling erotic paranormal novella.

No matter how hard Lizzy Rumbolds tries when making love to a man, she never reaches a real orgasm. Will an ancient German relic give her what she craves?

** LORD OF THE SWAMPS is a sizzling, paranormal erotic romance, definitely not meant for the faint of heart.

When a car crash ruins her future, Myra Parker is desperately unhappy with herself.
She travels to Holland to find out what to do with the rest of her life. What will she find in those treacherous marshlands? Happiness? Or... Death?

Ms. Verkerk, it certainly looks as if you’re very fond of the paranormal. :-)

Oh yes! I love writing paranormal erotic romances. Anything is possible. I can transfer my heroines to whatever time I want. I can use magic, create a world with witches, magicians, shape-shifters, beautiful princesses and gorgeous princes, or whatever I like.

My readers crave my stories and they enjoy reading them as much as I love the writing.
